Mobsters kidnap Lafontaine Smith, a key witness against them. Max had located Smith to testify against mobster Ray Dominick, only for him to be kidnapped by Dominick's thugs.

Sam Frank, a homeless clairvoyant, with a knack for predicting when crimes will occur, sends Max and Charlie on the trail of an odd collection of suspects.

Max finds a wounded girl in the trunk of a stolen Rolls-Royce and, after discovering that a bullet in the head has left her with amnesia, tries to help her recover her memory by re-tracing her recent activities. While searching for the identity of the amnesia victim, Max is stalked by a hitman who is wanted by the FBI.
